Ducati 999 “Neoracer” for racing lovers

10 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

After a lifetime in circuits this Ducati 999 is resurrected for the street.

Ducati 999 "Neoracer" by Lord Drake Kustoms

Its owner who lives a few kilometers from the circuit of Cheste (Spain); decided a few months ago that the time had come to recycle this magnificent motorcycle and turn it into a more comfortable, current and quiet style. That was how one day he decided to call Lord Drake Kustoms, where Fran Manen (owner of LDK) would attend him and exchange ideas of how the new Ducati 999 could be. After the telephone conversation the project was closed and ready to begin Act.

At a time when it seems that only some old motorcycle models can be transformed and in which many people seem to be crazy to find some scrap from 40 years ago in which to spend a disproportionate amount of money (for the type and state in which they tend to be) what better job than to transform a motorcycle totally opposite to the fashion trends … a relatively modern motorcycle and also total racing! Nothing more and nothing less than a 999 Ducati.

The owner of Lord Drake Kustoms told us: “For me it was a very nice project, because I love the Ducati and this was the first time I worked with one that was not a Monster model.

“A LOT OF PEOPLE SEEMS TO BE CRAZY TO FIND SOME 40 YEARS OLD SCRAP IN WHICH TO SPEND AN AMOUNT OF DISPROPORTIONED MONEY”

Ducati 999 "Neoracer" by Lord Drake Kustoms

I must admit that at first the idea overwhelmed me a little, because the 999 unlike the Monster, comes loaded with parts and elements that were hidden behind the fairing … which would be one of the main challenges: leaving the bike aesthetically clean , beautiful and functional once the fairings were removed. Then, if we wanted to make a difference, we were clear that the tires should be different and in this case nothing better than some of the spokes to give it a more classic touch “.

Fran Manen has also modified the entire subframe and incorporated the rear turn signals on it. In addition, part of the stainless steel exhaust manifold has been manufactured to convert it into a 2: 1 and adapt a Supertrapp tail. All hand controls have been modified just like the front suspension. The rear brake caliper has had to be modified in its position to be used with the new spoke wheels. The front fender and the side cover of the battery have been manufactured by hand and many other modifications that you can see in this report or in the complete photo album of the page www.lorddrakekustoms.com.

Finally, the whole bike has been painted. The chassis has gone from gray to red, the engine from gray to black and the fuel tank has been painted in a simple white with the somewhat more classic Ducati graphics, to give it a more elegant touch and obtain as a result wonderful Ducati 999 “neoracer”.

BMW R100 Black, the beast Scrambler

BMW R100 Scrambler

Fran Manen, told us that there was always someone who asked them why in Lord Drake Kustoms, they only made sportster models, scrambler … Well, the answer is this: “If you have to do sportster, you do sportster, but if you have to do BMW … what better way to start than with one like this?

This model of motorcycle has been one of the most used lately in the work of customization and transformation of motorcycles, and is that despite the years these classic BMW R, have not lost their charm and continue to interest the public, in addition to offering many possibilities of lucidity if you work with taste.

BMW R100 Scrambler

Specifically, -Fran told us-, this bike was sent to us by a customer practically in boxes, it lacked a quantity of parts and the bike was in a condition not to use it or for scrap.

“THE CUSTOMER WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELEGANT WITH A PREDOMINANCE OF BLACK, BUT I DIDN’T FEEL LIKE DOING THE CLASSIC, TOPICAL CAFE-RACER, BUT RATHER SOMETHING MORE SCRAMBLER OR BRAT…”

The transformation took place in our workshop in Malaga, and the first thing we had to do when we arrived at the workshop was to finish disassembling it and start stripping, blasting and powder painting all the parts and parts that were still salvageable, such as the chassis, tires, engine, etc..

BMW R100 Scrambler

The client was looking for something elegant with a predominance of black, but I didn’t feel like doing the classic and topical Cafe-Racer, but rather something more like scrambler or brat … I admit that it didn’t take long to decide to make a scrambler very old school, a bike that in addition to the size of scrambler, had something of those old BMWs of yesteryear. Although maybe a mix of bobber and scrambler but all very vintage… and here’s the result.

BMW R100 Scrambler

Gloss black, matte black and textured black have been combined to give this sober and elegant look to the bike, which we have placed a single-seater armchair and some custom-made fenders, which give the old school and vintage touch that we were looking for.

All hand controls are new and are accompanied by a street handlebar, although the original headlight and fork (somewhat modified) have been preserved to respect the spirit of this BMW R100.

We are currently working on two other BMW R100 that you will see very soon, which will give continuity to this first.

Triumph Bonneville “Scarface” or the price of power.

8 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

If Al Pacino had ridden a motorcycle in the famous 1983 movie, it would surely have been this one, the Triumph Bonneville “Scarface” customized by Lord Drake Kustoms.

Triumph Bonneville Scarface

When we asked LDK’s creator and owner, Fran Manen, the reason for that name, he replied: “What comes to mind if we mix: 80’s, Money and Power, Drugs and the City of Miami…. Scarface!

The look of a Cafe Racer or a back with a racing look of the 70-80, details in antique gold reminiscent of power and money.

The look of a Cafe Racer or a back with a racing look of the 70-80s, details in antique gold reminiscent of power and money, customized in Miami and the color “snow white” does not need more words to make sense … Scarface! Elegant and fast, arrogant and luxurious. This time a 2012 Triumph Bonneville T100 was the base chosen by Fran to make this Cafe Racer.

The entire rear end was handcrafted from a sheet of metal, using the lenses of Harley-Davidson touring model turn signals to manufacture the taillights. The rear turn signals were integrated into the tubes of the chassis that was cut and modified. The seat, chain cover, exhaust pipes and handlebars were also manufactured at Lord Drake Kustoms’ facility.

His first exit from the workshop was to get on a truck and go to the edition of the prestigious Rat’s Hole bike show held in Leesburg.

His first exit from the workshop was to get on a truck and go to the edition of the prestigious Rat’s Hole bike show held in Leesburg during the Bikefest last April 27, and it couldn’t have gone better; second place in the Cafe Racer category. And it didn’t come first because it had a great competitor who took the first place… his older sister “Red Baron”! (which we will talk about in a future post).

A tribute to the great movie, to a great actor like Al Pacino and to the city where Fran has now begun his ascending career.

Currently, this Cafe Racer is owned by Tom Kaulitz, composer, guitarist, pianist and producer of the band Tokio Hotel.

Goldfinger is the 007 Cafe Racer

7 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

We don’t know if Sean Connery, would have ridden this bike in the movie, but surely he would have noticed it as it passed by.

Goldfinger by Lord Drake Kustoms

Goldfinger is the third film in the “Bond” saga and also Sean Connery’s third film playing the MI6 agent, by the name of… Bond, James Bond. But also “Goldfinger” is the first unit of the third line of motorcycles Cafe Racer with Sportster base of Lord Drake Kustoms that, together with the golden color that stands out in all the motorcycle, has given sufficient argument to name it; according to us Fran Manen, owner of LDK.

Specifically, three units of this new line, which was launched in 2016, have already been sold (two of them to Harley Davidson dealers, which will soon be recognized by everyone, but for now we can’t say any more). Inspired by the previous and successful line of cafe racer (the “Stormracer” models) that we saw in Moto Madrid last year, the “Goldfinger” features changes such as the rear tail, the seat, the headlamp and the installation of semi handlebars, all together gives it a more modern and sporty touch, without leaving elegance aside.

In terms of colors and being the first unit, has sought something striking and daring, hence gold and white, in combination with black. Glossy white for the sides, impressive white pearl in the central bands (to be seen in sunlight) and details in pearly gold in pinstripings, rims and other details.

Remember that Lord Drake Kustoms besides its central facilities in Miami, Florida (USA) has facilities in Malaga (Spain), from where it offers service of transformation and modification of motorcycles for all Spain and rest of Europe, always without importing the style or mark of the motorbike and of course with budgets for all the pockets.

Sportster 883 is a Harley Cafe Racer

4 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

To close the year 2013, the owner of Lord Drake Kustoms in Miami (Fran Manen) decided to make a very simple motorcycle: a Sportster 883 R, his favorite Sportster model.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883R is Fran Manen’s favorite Sportster model. In this case it is a 2006 unit of Harley Davidson 883R that has been tried to modify keeping its original spirit as much as possible, but giving it a touch of elegance and distinction.

Harley Davidson 883 Cafe Racer

“This bike is designed for lovers of Sportster models, for those who want to have something different and original and not spend an exorbitant amount of money.”

Less is more! … that’s how Fran defines this modification work.
Somewhat tired of a year full of high level projects and difficulty, I wanted to enjoy some work before taking a break during last Christmas and come to Spain, his homeland, to enjoy the nougat. He wanted to do something simple and not too expensive, within reach of any pocket but eye-catching.

This bike is designed for lovers of Sportster models, for those who want to keep the spirit of the brand alive, have something different and original and not spend an exorbitant amount of money to have an exclusive bike.

If you like this bike or something similar, Lord Drake Kustoms has begun to create and market them in the facilities of the new branch in Spain, specifically in Malaga, in order to better serve the entire European market. They will have a stand at the Moto Madrid show from the 11th to the 13th of April, where you will be able to see their work. They offer a door-to-door motorcycle collection and delivery service throughout Europe for those customers who want to buy or modify their motorcycles with LDK… and depending on the type of work or purchase made, this service can be completely free for the customer.
