“Sixty-Nine” the sexy bobber

24 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

The “69”, the truth is that I do not know if this name has it for the year of manufacture or because it refers to the acrobatic amatoria posture… perhaps for both reasons.

"Sixty-Nine" a bobber by Lord Drake Kustoms

I opt for the second option because it is a bobber motorcycle that as I was working on it seemed more daring, sexier and maybe even something rampant and radical. Yes, but with elegance!

The year also counts because it is still a reference to the old school of that time but adapted to the moment and tastes of the market now.

What I was sure was that I wanted something striking and at the same time simple and elegant. That is why I combined the luminosity of white with the classicism of black, with a golden touch aged between the two, but without abusing because I did not want to fall into making a vulgar motorcycle or “chavs”.

“It’s simply the” 69. ” Sometimes it relaxes you, and sometimes it puts you a hundred. ”

Fran Manen

With a very casual style and for all audiences (for bikers and non-bikers, for young and less young people), something to roll on any promenade in the purest Californian style, and that people look at you when you pass, with a powerful sound and lively. Of course, the somewhat radical stance that encourages you to give your fist to the entrance of a highway! It is simply the “69”. Sometimes it relaxes you, and other times it puts you a hundred.

Modifications of the original

Regarding the changes, the belt has been replaced by a chain kit designed by LDK, something more appropriate to the new style. The height of the rear suspension has also been reduced by two inches and the front one modified.

The escape is also a work of Lord Drake Kustoms, as well as both fenders and the mandatory license plate holder, also replacing numerous parts such as handlebars, turn signals, cams, fists, footrests, spark plug wires, mirrors …

Sportracker, a scrambler with V-Twin heart

23 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

Knowing that every day the request for Scrambler models is increasing, it is a shame to think that Harley is not ready to extend the XL family with an Off Road version. Luckily for us an for all this type of motorbikes lovers; there will always be someone willing to do it…

Sportracker, a scrambler by Lord Drake Kustoms

At the sales level, Triumph Scramblers work very well; Ducati has just released one that they are going to treat as an independent brand that those of Borgo Panigale are sure that they will give a lot of “cane” in the sector, and if we add that they already begin to hear rumors that point to a Japanese brand is going to open its “trunk of memories” to surprise us very soon with a retro model that will satisfy both the urbanites daily and scares the weekend rabbits, it means that the Scrambler segment is going to get the most entertaining. And more than it would be if those of Milwaukee decided to join the parties instead of letting some of their most prestigious dealers develop new products at their own risk, although that is another story that today is not about .

Lord Drake Kustoms, or Fran Manen who owns it, is not a Harley dealer nor has an interest in being so, but a transformer with workshops in Europe and across the Atlantic, in Florida to be more exact, who knows so well what They want their customers that not long ago made a Scrambler project using an XL as a starting point.

And the invention liked it so much and it had such a good reception on a commercial level that it has been encouraged to develop a complete kit with which the owner of a Sportster can transform it without having to wait for those of Milwaukee to decide to do so.

Although, of course, the less “tricky” in mechanical matters can always order Fran the complete bike already finished or to transform theirs.

How it was made

The kit in question was developed on this Sportster 1200 custom carburetion, in which the first thing we notice is that its height has increased considerably with respect to the original model thanks to new fork bars and RFY gas shock absorbers with separate tank .

By giving that feeling of greater height so characteristic of any field motorcycle, the subframe supplement installed under the seat also contributes to which a rear fender with integrated LED pilot is attached, located in a position very far from the Continental Twinduro tire of 80 and 150mm wide profile.

The choice of this rubber by Fran was due to the fact that this XL is one of his private motorcycles and he uses it almost exclusively for excursions on the mountain and dirt roads, so that a mixed tire would have made no sense.

The seat’s design, in the shape of a banana, along with a X cross handlebar holded to the top triple tree with LDK risers enables to have a comfortable and relaxed position on the motorbike and at the same time, that enables to move it easily at low speed.

To be perfect, the foot plate should not have been brought forward but it was part of the choice of Fran, who already told us that for the “comercial kit” he has already considered other options to consumers.

In the Sportracker they also replaced the rims by new black anodized ones of 40 that turn out to be lighter than the original ones, ande the driving position, as it was for former motorcycles, the decided to eliminate all the extras with the exception of the speedo which is centrally located in the superior post, offering a perfect view.

As the V-Twin, Sportster is the typical motor that is used for almost all motorcycles, for this new off road version, Fran decided to make only a few changes: set up a new air cleaner and to recalibrate the carbuetor to adapt the fancy new RSD 2 in to 1 exhaust.

For a future version, if he finally decides to take part with a Sportster in Baja style races, he will probably replace the ratios of the gearbox, but for now he is convinced that the secondary chain transmission is enough to satisfy all the customers who the Milwaukee brand doesn’t seem willing to please with a Scrambler.

Daredevil (the scrambler) is a tribute to Evel Knievel

Daredevil: Reckless, who enjoys doing dangerous things.
Daredevil, a scrambler custom motorcycle by Lord Drake Kustoms

Fran Manen (owner of Lord Drake Kustoms) had been listening for a long time to his good friend Frank Mahieu, owner of the Belgian company “The Motocyclist”, to discuss his idea of paying tribute to Evel Knievel.

Evel Knievel

One afternoon they were chatting about the new electric bicycles and suddenly the “Evel Knievel” spark that had been out for some time jumped … Not everything is going to be bicycles, it’s time to do something with more gas and that’s when Frank commissioned Lord Drake Kustoms who will begin to shape a motorcycle, tribute to the famous American jumper.

So was the beginning of the return journey of “Daredevil” to earth. The base was a Sportster 1200, but this time the acronym HD did not mean Harley Davidson … they said: Harley Daredevil, which came as a ring to the finger. To give a more retro scrambler air, the modified Peanut-style tank was combined with a 21 ”front tire.

The graphics and colors were very easy to choose, the helmet and the cape served as inspiration. And as always you had to meet the three essential requirements of LDK for your bikes: simplicity, elegance and class where “less is more”.

The “Bultracker Ring 13” is a tribute to Bultaco

9 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

Bultracker Ring 13

Fran Manen of Lord Drake Kustoms said in the midst of the Bultracker process, that this bike is born from the love, respect and pride he professes for the famous Bultaco. Once it was finished, many admirers came out of it when it was exhibited at the Brussels International Motor Show.

Fran’s personalisation work was carried out on a Sportster 1200 and such an exceptional product was on sale for around 17,000 euros with free transport throughout Europe.

The project, when we first saw it, was given away as we used to say at the time “by the studded wheels, by the silent Supertrapp pair, with independent outlet, the stylish tank, the pure off-road front fender, the spoke wheels…”.

Bultracker Ring 13

After the success with the scrambler type “Soulbreaker” and “Sportracker”, the owner of LDK wanted to create by 2015 a new line of scramblers with a more retro look, and at the end of the year began to work, it was then when the idea emerged to create a Scrambler type Bultaco Matador to be called “Bultracker”.

Bultracker Ring 13
Bultracker Ring 13

Fran Manen began to shape the project, and halfway through he contacted a good friend (Mario Van Den Broeck, owner of Harley-Davidson Capital Brussels in Belgium), who had long wanted to create a scrambler tribute to the Spanish brand.

“by the studded wheels, by the silent Supertrapp pair, with independent outlet, the stylish tank, the pure off-road front fender, the spoke wheels…”

When Mario saw the motorcycle, he decided to keep the project to finish it with Fran and turn the bike into the “Bultracker Ring 13”: “Bultracker” for Bultaco and “Ring 13” for the bar and location of the H-D dealership in Brussels.

Bultracker Ring 13

“Bultracker Ring 13” has finally become the result of collaboration between two large companies, as this first unit of the “Bultracker” has served to reach an agreement between the two companies, for the distribution of Lord Drake Kustoms motorcycles throughout the Benelux through the concessionaire H-D Capital Brussels.

There is now a second unit on sale, called “Bultracker 17” in shades of blue and silver, which was presented and exhibited to the public at the Moto Madrid show and which, of course, has been just as admired as its Belgian resident sister.

Goldfinger is the 007 Cafe Racer

7 October, 2019 by caferacer Leave a Comment

We don’t know if Sean Connery, would have ridden this bike in the movie, but surely he would have noticed it as it passed by.

Goldfinger by Lord Drake Kustoms

Goldfinger is the third film in the “Bond” saga and also Sean Connery’s third film playing the MI6 agent, by the name of… Bond, James Bond. But also “Goldfinger” is the first unit of the third line of motorcycles Cafe Racer with Sportster base of Lord Drake Kustoms that, together with the golden color that stands out in all the motorcycle, has given sufficient argument to name it; according to us Fran Manen, owner of LDK.

Specifically, three units of this new line, which was launched in 2016, have already been sold (two of them to Harley Davidson dealers, which will soon be recognized by everyone, but for now we can’t say any more). Inspired by the previous and successful line of cafe racer (the “Stormracer” models) that we saw in Moto Madrid last year, the “Goldfinger” features changes such as the rear tail, the seat, the headlamp and the installation of semi handlebars, all together gives it a more modern and sporty touch, without leaving elegance aside.

In terms of colors and being the first unit, has sought something striking and daring, hence gold and white, in combination with black. Glossy white for the sides, impressive white pearl in the central bands (to be seen in sunlight) and details in pearly gold in pinstripings, rims and other details.

Remember that Lord Drake Kustoms besides its central facilities in Miami, Florida (USA) has facilities in Malaga (Spain), from where it offers service of transformation and modification of motorcycles for all Spain and rest of Europe, always without importing the style or mark of the motorbike and of course with budgets for all the pockets.
